As much as I would love one of those alpine/pioneer dvd stereos, i simply cant afford it but maybe just a basic stereo one that can play at least a cd. But another thing how will they add back the BMW housing to the stereos? will it not look odd?

thanks for the info, much appreciated!
it won't look odd, cos there are brackets to match the stereo head unit size to your car, only a few hundred dollars HK$990 (install cost at HK$180) plus the bracket cost, thus, that's probably everything fort HK$1400

This one is even better, brand new sony, cd, usb, 3.5mm input, plus, for HK$990 , plus fitting cost HK$180 and bracket presumably at HK$200ish, that's HK$1400 ish for a brand new one

the same shop has basic alarms for HK$290 plus HK$250 installation cost, that's really cheap, not sure of quality though

    hey, thanks for the info

about the alarms? will they most likely fix it or put in a new alarm? not keen on the idea of carrying my car key and a alarm key as well.

fixing alarm will probably cost more than replacing it as not all shops might have the expertise to fixing a BMW alarm System.

Key + Alarm is not a biggie, I do it for my Alphard.

If you ever get a chance to go to MK while driving, stop over at Hak Po street, many stereo and alarm shops there. http://goo.gl/maps/0vcWw
