Roadworthiness Test (aka MOT) 2 months waiting list

over the weekend the garage mechanic mentioned that the current waiting list for the MOT is now around 2 months! So if you need a test in May 2015 suggest you check with your garage ASAP. Last July 2014, it was only around 2 weeks.

I now have the same problem. I have set a reminder for a month in advance for my license renewal. The earliest MOT booking I can get is as you say middle of May- 2 months away. I never had this problem last year.
So this leaves me in a real tight spot and a catch 22 situation. Has anybody else been in a similar situation and found a remedy?

Car mechanics are pretty much the last people I put trust in. Just call the MOT places and ask. From my knowledge you CAN just show up.

I told my mechanic to book it before CNY but he was too busy going on holiday bloody muppet, my car expires on Apr 27 and the earliest appointment he could get was May 10th FFS.

Another option is to book the fast track MOT apparently which cost $4000 incld fixing the car for issue with another garage. Aiya.

Well I have dealt with MOT centers personally and I know the fact that anyone CANNOT just show up without a booking. All the MOT guys will stand there laughing if some one did try it.

WTF you talk about? I did that. Waited 20 Minutes or so and it was done. What you have to lose anyway other then time? If course the repair crooks don't want to wait.

One of the Siulekyuen ones, forgot which one. No need to send a mechanic there, can DIY. Just make sure the obvious things are working, light etc. Then repair what failed (if any). The make-my-car-mot-ready is usually legal robbery.

Not that the brand repair places are better. A top brand one wanted to replace the break pads - which I just did a few weeks earlier at that time.

the only one in Siulekyuen is Inchcape Motor Services Ltd, 2/F., Topsail Plaza, 11 On Sum Street, when did you do the MOT there.

edit: there is actually two, the other one is Universal Cars Ltd.

There are 2 in the same building, I used both. I forgot which one and when. They don't write w/o booking on the paper. The whole process takes them only 10 Minutes or so. Last time was the 3/rd floor one (not Inchcape). I had a booking, but went 2 days earlier because of work issues. Was no problem. If you insist on booking, book and show up early. Booking is free anyway.

Of course I didn't check ALL mot places, and things could have changed between January and now.

PS: Nothing to lose. No mot, no car use after your registration expires. You really have no other options. Of course now the non-driver will come how good the bus routes are.... :-)
