They didn't jack up the price here in HK right?
Is that why people are buying Teslas? I see these cars everywhere now.
They are cheaper in the US. You can check the pricing difference for yourself.

For less than what WTBHOTIA ( a GEO member that owns a very thirsty Toyota Alphard ) spends on petrol each month, you can lease buy ( own ) a Tesla Model S 70D all wheel drive sedan.

Once the penny drops, it really is a very humbling experience, asking oneself why we wasted so much time with the extremely energy inefficient, internal combustion engine. sad that BIG oil has/had so much govt backed power and control.

With the 70% buyback after 3 years, its a no-brainer.

Wtbhotia spends that much on petrol per month?

I doubt you can buy a RHD in a US, or even check the price for one. They simply wouldn't sell you one.

I wasn't saying you could buy one - just highlighting the price differential.

I agree. But can anyone see my point about putting that running gear in 'ordinary' cars? I couldn't cope with three years of telling my troops to keep it clean and free of tears inside, etc...not to mention the dog.

Hard to compare, in general RHDs are more expensive. And with a wait list here you have no bargaining power.

The list of EV's approved by the TD is getting pretty long. It would be nice if they could offer higher subsidies for small family cars rather than luxury vehicles. No doubt the Tesla brand has taken away any stigma from owning a none ICE vehicle but it is time to get EV's throughout society.

Unfortunately giving more $$$ subsidy to the rich is too deeply ingrained within this administration to be changed easily.

Getting all the high usage taxis and delivery vans would be better for the city than getting lots of Tesla's on the road. Subsidy for the Tesla looks very good...

Lets see how the cars hold up for another year or so. And how tye new parking and Lane changing u dates roll out.

Not going to be an early adopter for once.
Yes I only got the P85D because of the videos LOL a lot of friends are surprised how much I paid because most of the media coverage was on the 60 or new 70D. Completely agree that if you're getting a sensible commuter the 70 is more than enough for HK travel distances. And it still does 0-60 in sub 6 seconds which is faster than a lot of sport sedans.

So far people are already complaining about the speed of after sales service. The chicken and egg problem has caught up with them; Consumer Reports withdrew recommended status for the Model S. I have to wait a month for a service appointment for a malfunction that should've been picked up during pre delivery inspection. But for any business, do you hire 100 techs with a huge service dept BEFORE you sell the first 1000 cars? Or do you sell them first and make some money and THEN try to catch up before people get pissed off?

You will have plenty more choices in 2 years I think; Audi and Porsche are coming out with EVs for sure. And I think the price will drop further with this news... : Tesla Aims to Build Its Electric Cars in China - WSJ

I just got alerted to the autopilot update today on my car and set it to install 2am tonight. But I didn't get the autopilot hardware (can be retrofitted for $) because I just don't see it being necessary in HK. If it was autonomous driving that's another thing but for autopilot it's kinda just smart cruise control.

And the culture is trying to catch up.... expecting people to be logical here with ettiquette like leaving once your car is charged at Superchargers (you get an app that tells your how long your car needs to charge, turn on AC, etc) is going to take time.... that and aholes like this the other day (Science Park says they can't impound cause it's Tesla's property and Tesla isn't going to man all their Superchargers with attendants): Using our Supercharger spots as free parking
