Traffic in HK seems pretty good overall

Compared to other cities, such as London or Beijing, vehicle traffic in HK Island seems pretty good - especially at the weekend (which would be a heavy time for central London). Have I missed the traffic or overall is it pretty good in Hong Kong?

Delhi, Jakarta too name a few are bad but Dhaka was the worst traffic that I have ever been in my whole life, 30 km ride took 3 hours each way, one time took 4 hours to get back to hotel FFS.

If you would like some light reading then this report was recently accepted by the transport bureau from their principle advisory committee

    http://www.thb.gov.hk/eng/boards/tra...ng_C_cover.pdf

Even with the building of new roads the average car journey speed in urban areas dropped by about 11% from 25.6 km/h in 2003 to 22.7 km/h in 2013 where London is around 24 km/m.

Given Hong Kong has a much higher vehicle ownership rate per Km of road the generally free flowing traffic outside the known politically too sensitive congestion hotspots is pretty impressive.

Hong Kong is listed #114 in this list of car ownership statistics

    Seems not very high..

East coast has been told this before Rote, but for some reason she thinks that car ownership is high over here. Never quite understood why though.

To me, HK has a VERY high concentration of heavy commercial vehicles on the road,, many more times than what I am used to seeing elsewhere I have lived. Kind of understandable, when majority of people here DONT own/drive a car, also highlighted by one of the worlds highest public transport adoption/useage rates per capita, in the first world...

A better measure is probably the vehicles per Km of road available to use

Vehicle ownership has gone up a lot since this chart was published.

No wonder she bombards us with data, she would do well as a research assistant.
