    Road flares

In the US, having flares in your trunk is kind of common. If you breakdown you put out flares to help direct cars around the disabled vehicle.

I don't think I've ever seen flares in Hong Kong. Are they illegal? Is it a wildfire risk, or do the cars just not breakdown often enough to be considered.

I don't think I have seen these outside North America.

I assume they would be regarded as fireworks in HK and therefore illegal.

Just about every street in Hong Kong is lit, so there is little need to illuminate a disabled car as an obstruction.

Also, isn't there an increased risk of fire? You have a disabled car, whether by mechanical breakdown or accident, that could be leaking fuel...

Aren't the hazard warning indicators enough? or a warning triangle?

And if you have any doubts... a plethora of lasers, LEDs and all sorts of lighting can be purchased from TaoBao for cheap.

when a car breaks down or even just has a puncutured tire, they get on the phone and call a tow truck, the driver rarely even gets out of the car or does a quick look and gets back in the car, hazard warning indicators are turned on and they sit and wait, Very rare they even put the warning triangle out or get out and direct traffic to avoid their car.

Road flares, never ever seen in HK.

I don't know anyone in the states who carried flares. Might be a west coast thing?

Many Japanese domestic models (parallel/grey imports here) are supplied with flares which do have to be taken out for the MOT in HK.
