    Car Insurance Question

    Hi,

I'm new to HK and recently my wife got into a car accident (vehicle is beyond repairable). I was told by a friend that until this accident is resolved (police investigation, statement, etc.), insurance will not be able to provide me a new quote for a new car. Also told this can take up to a few months.

I have a couple of young kids and is pretty keen on having a vehicle as soon as possible, would love to hear if anyone had similar experience.

    Thanks,
    Stanley

why not call or email your insurer and explain the situtation and see if you can get new insurance for a new car? some insurers will, some won't, obviously your insurance premium will increase,

another way, if you was the name insured, quote insurance using your wife's name instead of you

By "provide me a new quote for a new car" - do you mean a replacement car or rental? Or do you mean a new policy quote?

A new insurance quote for a replacement vehicle. No quote = no cover note for replacement car.

should be no problem to get an insurance quote, be aware while the case is unresolved your NCD may be zero, plus the insurer may treat as increased risk and increase the premium because the claim has not been resolved yet.

Ahh HK and its full of poo, NCB and the lethargic police investigation.

It's not until you move away from lala land that you realise, just how farKing shit, Hong Kong car insurance is.

I insured our first car since we moved back (Aust) online in about 15 minutes (AAMI that time) full comprehensive, No mention of NCB, only asked if you claimed in the last 2 years, Inc windscreen damage cover, road side assistance and free hire car if my car is off the road due to an accident. FARK! What a difference!

My best mate, his wife, has pranged their 3 year old Nissan X-Trail, twice over the last year, both times I was amazed just how simple and easy the claim process was. Nothing like the unecisary theatrics that HK puts you through.

Car got pranged, insurance company organised tow truck, assessor came out and advised on damage cost, claim fully submitted over a few days. car was returned, 3 weeks later looking good as new.

Just so lovely an experience and I'll ask him what his premium is now..but when it's no stress like that, we really are spoilt compared to how you're treated in HK.theyll even repair your car with AAMI 3rd party, if the other driver is at fault! WOW!

Just saying, but they really are worlds apart.

Some/most insurance companies won't insure you with a pending claim.

That's what I'm trying to figure out if anyone had any experience obtaining insurance while there is a pending claim.

I am expecting a premium increase and is okay with it.

Hi, husband recently got into a similar situation (husband at fault) but the car can repaired. 3rd party quoted 35k for repair. He also shared that he bought the used car recently for 40k. I felt 35k is too high so plan to claim the insurance. But I worry whether next year when renew, the insurance price is going to be exorbitant. Currently we pay 6k for comprehensive from Liberty via Kwiksure. Does anyone know how much higher it gets the next year if my husband choose to claim? Don't mind losing NCD cos it is the first year we own a car in HK.
