How have you guys found the quality, fit and finish of your Shanghai delivered cars? I was so going to pull the trigger this year to purchase our first Tesla, but when RHD production ceased at Fremont USA, February 2021, I decided against it for a few reasons that I'm not interested in elaborating on.

Fortunately for me, one of me beasties took delivery of his Model 3 early March this year, one of the few last ones constructed at the Fremont plant. He is waiting for the cyber truck to be launched as he needs to tow, which I now have first dibs on his car when he updates.

I haven't noticed any issues with, fit, finish or anything unusual during the times I've had access or driven his car ( when we've been out drinking at the Paddo in Brisbane) he seems to have got a good one, which I want when it's available, plus I'll save about 50% in depreciation, so all good!

One thing I do know is that the Tessa as we call her, likes to consume tyres, already going through a set of rear tyres since March this year and they're not cheap either at $400aud each, being a very quiet tyre spec regarding road noise, as it was explained to me. I'm not sure what brand he got but I'm assuming they're probably Michellin Pilot Sport 4's. Very good tyre, but I get about 3 years out of a whole set lol I do feel it's because of the way he drives than the cars fault lol

So those of you who got Shanghai factory assembled MY21 Tesla vehicles, how are they, are you happy and do you have any niggles?

Very happy so far with the quality of the MIC M3.

It Is like night and day when compared with the Freemont stuff (I have friends with both so it is very easy to compare), fit and finish, panel gaps, interior seams are way ahead.

Got a Model Y for wifey to collect this week, which is also from Shanghai, so will compare more then.

I've been tempted by Teslas but my dislike of Elon Musk seems to be insurmontable. I was toying with alternatives like the Ioniq 5/ Kia EV6 etc with the 1for1 scheme (to use in about 2 years when am due to move to another place). It seems that I can't install a home charger and I really can't see myself queuing up for outside charging, so I'll probably just get another, quieter, ICE next.

I'm curious, is autopilot/ FSD a thing in HK? I can't see it being much use.

Autopilot is standard in the Model Y... but crippled by the transport department.

I have not used it yet ... turned it on for a few seconds and gone "ok, it did something" and turned it off ... One of these days, I'll find a suitable road free of traffic to test this on.

There is no FSD in HK for now, the TD is living in the 80s still.

The standard Autopilot (lane keeping, cruise control) works rather well, especially in traffic, tunnels being my primary use for Autopilot in HK.

I think the Y has Auto Steer enabled. Not sure if the 3 has this activated or available.

yah my ‘21 MY SR is with premium audio and is FANTASTIC!!

One thing I think I mentioned is that I don’t use the premium connectivity anymore and just BT Spotify from phone which is pretty seamless

MIC MY SR 18” gemini wheels.. I feel build quality was very good. I downloaded these checklists to look for panel gaps, paint mismatches/scratches, headlights, interior fittings, etc.. mostly all checked out and only thing I noticed recently was that the 2 rear brake lamps are not weatherproofed and fogged up a bit. Some people mentioned that online, so I’ll put that on the list for my first service.

otherwise I think all good. Tires for HK on the 18” came with Hankook Ventus S1evo3 - apparently a tire Hankook designed for EVs (I think the LR or Perf come with the Michelin PS4s EV version). So far pretty good and performes well in rain which is what we need in HK.

@m2a6c - 19" standard and yiu are right, seems to be a specially designed tire I think. No clue what replacement costs or reliability would be like.

Those Tesla specific Michelllin Pilot Sport 4's cost $350aud a tyre over here, just had a mate replace all four on his Model 3 SR in the last couple of weeks, after 50,000km.
