    driving license application?

    http://www.td.gov.hk/FileManager/EN/...v.11.2008_.pdf

anyone filled out the driver licence direct exchange application? just a few Q's.

there is a section under the name, which asks "chinese commercial code"- then had 6 boxes with spaces for 3 characters each- any idea what that is?

also, when marking the type of licence, there's a checkbox 'with auto transmission'- i'm licensed to drive both manual and auto- so do i or do i not check this box?

If you have a Chinese name then there is a numerical version (4 digits in each of the 6 actually) of the characters which goes there. If you don't have a Chinese name then leave it blank.

I have the same overseas licence qualifications as you, and I'm pretty sure I ticked both the boxes to the left and right of the category.

    Quick answers:
    1. Chinese Commercial Code (CCC) is a transcription system for Chinese characters, where each Chinese characters is assigned a unique number. Leave this blank if you do not have a Chinese name, it is just there to avoid confusing/misreading of Chinese characters.
    2. Do not tick the box - it means that you are only allowed to drive automatic transmission vehicles. License for manual vehicles, of course, also covers automatic ones.

When you go along to the office, take photocopies of EVERYTHING with you ... as I recall it didn't say that on the website and they sent me off down the hall to get some of my licence and ID card made downstairs....

LMAO - this is the post of the week I think!

Is a name really a name if you never use it?

Dude - don't be hard on yaself... Actually, no one bothers "translating" Chinese-character names into official CCC (Chinese Commercial Code).

Just whip out your HKID for a peek:
Under your Chinese AND full English name is a series of numbers, e.g. 1234 5678 9000 (but 8 digits if you've a two-syllable name). That's what you put in there.

I believe the code is on your ID card, below your name and above your DOB.
