I set my ACs between 26-27 degrees. Panasonic split inverters. Monthly bill in summer is around $600-700, usually running at least 2.

Okay, but still a lot, 10 times what I pay in August (one person 800 ft.²)

If you get them serviced and running at 22 to 24, you have much less wiggle room.

I’d say, change your AC company to one where you make specifics about the AC’s needing to be more efficient and having refrigerant topped up. (Makes sure you understand what that looks like and you witness it being done - watch a You tube tutorial). Twice a year is a lot to have them serviced, They probably aren’t doing anything of note. That sounds like another sunk cost.

also, whilst rare, it’s not totally unheard of to have neighbours, stealing your electricity. Turn off your mains switch at night when your neighbours are home and check if anything happens in their places simultaneously, ….and if your meter continues to spin.

Me too, except when I sleep, then it is around 22 degrees, because colder = better sleep. I always only have the AC on in the room I am in, except if I leave for toilet breaks, etc. I shake my head at people who have their units running at min temp all day.

Looking at the thermometer in my living room now and it's showing 29.2 degrees & 52% humidity. Because I'm using a dehumid & have a fan blowing on me with such low humidity, I don't even have the aircon on. Using a fan makes a big difference. Granted, another degree higher and I will probably feel the need to turn on the AC.

Summer bill 6-700 p/month. Winter below 200. 640 sq.ft, 2 ppl. Even includes electric water heater & induction cooking. No gas in the building.

Exactly the same as what I do.

for Beanieskis benefit if you want to be more comprehesive about this, you can spend an evening ( or morning) testing each appliance. Turn all your Circuits offat the box apart from one AC circuit. Switch on one of the AC’is on that circuit and count How many revolutions your metre makes in 2 minutes.

Repeat that process for each AC and for your major appliances (water heater, fridge,). If nothing else, it will teach family members about what appliances use a lot of juice (make them sit through it ;-), it’s educational!

I have to admit to something very stupid. I didn't realize that CLP bills come every two months! So, I still have a reasonably expensive bill, but I no longer need to declare bankruptcy. Thanks for alerting me to this and securing my 50% discount
