    Ride hailing apps

Now that HKTaxi is gone is Uber the only app or are there others we can try? I heard of one called Fai Dak - are there apps that offer cheaper rides than Uber? Or a way to buy Uber credit at discount?

Alipay HK has various coupons for Uber and AMAP taxi, a few free each month and you can top up to buy vouchers

TADA - has some new customer coupons - never tried it though

I used Tada in Singapore. Didn't know it was in HK too?

    What is AMAP taxi?

Flytaxi has good reach. Clunky UI/UX, but at least like HKTaxi and unlike Uber, you can set preference for newer hybrid taxis and Octopus payment.

Tada is crap. Even in very busy areas there's basically no cars. Uber is going to control the market and they even allow you to request 15% discount meter taxis.

Yes, otherwise known as FlyTaxi, as mentioned by another. It seems very popular with local Drivers- many of them seem to have it on their mobile phones. For customers, I found that it is not as easy to search and choose specific addresses, i.e. Home World Whampoa, or Lai Chi Kok MTR.

On a side note- it is interesting that many taxis with the 'Uber Taxi' name and logo on their car doors may not be 'under' the Uber app. I have taken a few of them and asked the drivers- some have responded they simply get paid to have the logo and name on their taxi doors, while Not actually being under the App. Uber Taxi has gone All Out with advertising and promoting, and it seems the HK Gov is fully on board. So, just Uber X private cars, under the same app, being fully recognized and insured. The cat's out of the bag already, or so to speak.

Is there an observable price difference between Uber, Tada, and FlyTaxi?

Seems like Didi is trying to re-enter the HK market. https://www.bloomberg.com/news/artic...hong-kong-push

    More competition the better.

If they can reduce prices for us, great.
