Question Fitting a shower screen in a bath

    hi all,

I have been in HK for about 5 weeks now, and I'm loving it.

After some extensive (and exhaustive/exhausting) searching, I'm about to sign for an apartment in island crest, sai ying pun.

The bathroom has a shower over bath, and a shower curtain rail built into the ceiling. Trouble is: i HATE shower curtains. I'm thinking to install a shower screen that will extend about half the length of the bath instead of having a shower curtain, but the landlord doesn't want me drilling into the bathroom tiles, which is fair enough.

Has anyone any bright ideas as to how I might get a screen fitted without need to drill the tiles? maybe even use the shower rails somehow? and if somehow i can get this done, anyone got any ideas who can help me fit it?

    thanks!

use silicon bath sealer - dont need to support much weight - u can get perspex in wanchai lockhart road get a sheet cut to height- then glue it into place- sounds like a DIY job an should cost u hk$200-300

If the rail sits exactly above the edge of the tub you could use silicon to 'glue' it in (apply also along the wall of course).
However it's quite dangerous because if you ever lost balance and tried to support yourself on the screen (unconsciously) you may fall down with it as it might not hold the weight; beside breaking a bone or two you may cut yourself on the shards.
Thus you should only fit a screen if it can be properly fixed and is made from tampered glass.

thanks both for your advice - glad to hear it's possible!

seeing as i'm the worst DIYer in the world, any ideas if there is a store somewhere or someone who can help?

Also - is this silicon sealer thing easy to remove? whenever i eventually leave the apartment, i think the landlord would want the bathroom back the way it was, so I just need to be sure this isn't completely permanent.

    thanks again!

yeah u can scrape it off. perspex is a plastic sheeting. so wont shatter like glass - it may bend and possibly crack.. any store will cut to size in my exerience... getting a handyman would prob cost more than the materials!!
saw a thread about em a while ago... better use the search
