    Peeling paint!

    Greetings,

Here's the deal, so we've been living in HK, in the same apartment for 3 years now, and nothing major's really gone wrong, but the paint on our bathroom ceiling has just started peeling, and now that it's started, there's no going back, my husband has tried to fix it, but if it's wet on the inner most layer, then any sort of fixing would only be temporary right? What we need to do is scrap everything off, let it dry and start from scratch, is that correct?

Can anyone recommend a good handyman who can do the job properly, so we don’t have to worry in the long term please!!!

    Thanks in advance~

Get a dehumidifier first and start getting rid of the dampness in the bathroom

Are you renting? - Get the landlord to fix it.

If it's your flat, make sure you use the bathroom exhaust fan after showers.

    Thanks guys~

Yep, we've done all that, always use the fan, or just open the window, and there's like 3 dehumidifiers in our house, HK is just too humid! But it's strange, that nothing went wrong for 3 years, then we get this...

Do you have neighbours above your apartment? There is a possibility that their bathroom is leaking water into yours.

It peels because there is probably a layer of whitewash on the concrete, or gypsum. Emulsion paint doesn't like to stick to white wash.

    Remove the flaking paint.

Make a mix of water and white wood glue. Spray or paint it on the areas were the paint came off. Then paint again. And use mold proof paint - anywhere in the place, but specially in the bathroom. And get good paint, that's the one around $400/5Kg.
