We are replacing a couch and don't know what to do with the old one.
Are there any companies or organisations we can call to pick it up? Otherwise what do people usually do with unwanted furniture?

Post it on Geoexpat classified section, under "Free stuff, wanted, misc."
If it's free and in decent condition, someone might come and take it off your hands.
http://www.crossroads.org.hk although they may have a bit of a backlog on collections.
In some larger developments building management arrange for furniture disposal around the time of CNY (when locals traditionally do it).
Otherwise try talking to / bribing the people who deliver your new one to take away the old one.
We're buying second hand though DeletedUser.
It's not in great condition to be fair, the leather upholstery is coming off all over it.
Go down to the street in the early hours and find the guy who pushes the street rubbish trolley . Give him a 100and view will take it off your hands if you bring it down to street level . That's how I got rid of my old sofa
