    Using starch on fabrics

I need to stiffen the brim of a hat and made up some starch. Then applied the starch but now i wonder if the starch needs heat to make it stiffen up. I know when cooking and using starch for sauces i must boil the liquid to make the starch change its chemical structure. I would use an iron to apply the heat to the hat. Any ideas on this?

Starch will wilt under any kind of humidity, therefore, I wouldn't use an iron. Better to place infront of a fan or hair dryer, or even next to the dehumidifier.

You can use a dry iron, you know. When my mother used to starch the collars of my school shirt, she used to use an iron on the lowest setting and an old rag in between the surfaces.
