Where to get a bed to fit in window sill made?

    Hi,

I did a quick search and did not find anything definitive here.

We are moving into a new flat (renting). The rooms are all quite small. We would like to have a bed made so that it takes advantage of the large window sills in the room so that we can squeeze a queen into the space.

Anyone have any recommendations on where to get something like this made? We are not planning to stay in the flat very long, so any solution would have to be on-the-cheap.

    Thanks in advance

I found a place a couple years back that did very cheap custom furniture. They were remarkably professional, though that was probably more a matter of luck with the saleslady that I spoke with.

The address is in Chinese... off memory this place is on Kings Rd around Sau Kei Wan.

Thanks very much for the reply. Will call them this week.

If anyone has any alternatives, I would love to hear them.

    Thanks again,

I'd been vaguely thinking of doing the same thing so i'd be interested to hear how it works out.

We inherited a bed frame that was like that. Only thing I should mention is to give a few inches between the top of the bed / frame and the window due to the condensation issues that sometimes occur.

I would strongly recommend going in person rather than calling, unless you can speak Cantonese. This place is a very local outfit and if you can only converse in English over the phone then you're probably not going to have any luck whatsoever. Remember- if you are looking for cheap, then you're going to have to expect some sort of tradeoff. In this case, it's probably going to be in the language department.

When we had something made, the vast majority of communications was done via a remarkably detailed (bordering on obsessive) drawing by the saleswoman. What she drew was exactly what we got, and she had to ask us a whole bunch of very specific clarifying questions (e.g. the thickness of our skirting boards) as we were working with very tight space tolerances.

I would be pretty sure that if you call up, just in English, you're probably not going to get too much accomplished.

If I can find the name of the saleslady on my receipt/design drawing, I'll upload that too. She was really very good.
