    Custom furniture, really?

I've seen articles about having custom furniture done in HK. I think we're finally ready to move away from Ikea but not so much on the crazy high end side (or is custom furniture considered on the high side)? Does anyone have specific company recommendations? Things to look for as I'm not a furniture expert ie how to spot shoddy craftsmanship, fake fabrics? I appreciate your input.

How custom? You can probably go to one of those streets with loads of woodworking shops and give them specific measurements or design then they can give you a quote. Haven't dealt with them personally but I'm sure someone will come along

I have had several rounds of custom furniture made (custom fit wardrobes, cupboards, beds etc etc) and can recommend Centro (HomeSquare - Centro) as a professional company with high quality products.

What you get is really low quality stuff. Often it's made from pressed paper. And cheap metal parts from the hardware store. A formaldehyde test is suggested if you have any.

If it's fibrewood, they usually don't use the humidity proof bathroom type wood, expect it to grow a mm in thickness every year.

I think u need a company offer fabric with upholstery services. So you can design your own furniture.

I have ordered stuff (sofa and dining table) from Artura Ficus without any issues. Had a custom tv cabinet made by Ovo that had it's hinge come off and Ovo could not fix it. I ended up with a DIY by wedging a disposable chopstick into the old screw hole and screwed a new screw on top, but I liked their quality otherwise. Tree, nah not so much. Bought a sofa there whose cushions lost their shape after two years.
