    Door Closer

is door closer necessary? the front door at the place that we rent has some type of concealed door closer. someone before us probably sprayed a lot of wd-40 on it and now it's got all these black tar sticky stuff on it. make it opening and closing the door very hard. i suppose i could spray some wd-40 on it for temporary solution but prefer just to disable the door closer all together.

You have my permission to disable it if that's what you are asking for.

seriously though, is there a reason they do this in HK? is it a standard to have this on doors? for typhoon or something? just wondering.

We have it on internal and external doors. We installed it because Kids & Aircon.

Aircon costs a lot of money > Open doors let cold air dissipate > Kids never remember to close doors > A simple and inexpensive tool lets us save electricity.

spoke with my boss yesterday and she said that the front door and kitchen door in HK have the closers. it's some sort of fire regulation or something. suppose will keep it on and spray some WD-40.
