    Question Fix/replace glasstop induction stove?

Has anyone here every had to replace a induction glasstop cooker? Huge crack in mine that's beyond repair. Wondering about costs/any leads on workman to replace it. Thanks!

Next question: Do I inform the landlord or handle it myself? Happy to do myself but don't want to anger the ol' dog..

(Leaning on the side of inform landlord, offer to replace myself or let his people do it – but I need to see all receipts so I don't get overcharged for parts and labour)

The glass is usually very easy to replace with a screw driver, you can find plenty of youtube videos.

The most challenging thing is sourcing the correct glass top.

Like anything that glows and throws heat like molten lava, I would only trust the manufacturer of the cooker with any repair or replacement.

I think it's easier to just replace the whole stove. Can get one for about 4k. Not sure there would be a huge saving once you source the glass and get the workmen to fix it.

Ours was just stuck on top of the countertop so we could take it out and unplug it and put a new one in quite easily. It's better you measure the size of the hole on the counter to find a new one that fits. Its expensive if you need them to cut a bigger hole for the new stove.

You don't get to see the suppliers buy price - you clearly have no idea the costs they need to cover in order to run their business, nor the profit they need to make to make it worth their while, rather than jacking it in and doing what you do instead.

Glass is a specialist subject and when you connect it to high power electrical devices, potential risks multiply massively.

Easier, safer and not a lot more expensive to buy a whole new hob - but definitely more wasteful.

I would change to the same brand/model. Otherwise there is a risk LL notices it and does not accept the replacement.
You can investigate just changing the glass, but I don't think this is possible, or worthwhile.

If yours is branded, check Amazon com or a Europe one. They have often MUCH better prices. Mine was like 1/3 compare to HK.

Call your landlord and deal with them. They should really be the ones fixing it.

Offer to buy the same brand locally to replace... only after they say they will not replace and its all your fault.

Did you damage it by accident, or was it fair wear and tear?

If you think you're at fault, you could replace yourself if the same model is still available? If the same model is not available, inform the LL of the damage and offer to replace with another model?

It’s quite rare that the glass plate develops a crack by itself unless there's a defect in the glass. If it’s wear and tear, see if LL will replace?

Sadly was my fault - freak accident as a spice jar fell a short distance at just the right angle.. alas

Think dealing with the landlord is best eh. Thanks for all the input! Let's see what he says
