    Trustworthy Gas Repair Person?

    Hi
Basically my gas cooker has broken down and I've been putting off for a while, have done a search and found some with $500 just for the fallout charge. And bearing in mind this isnt from a recommendation, so I'm always sceptical I'm going to be fleeced with a 2-3k bill with something that could be fixed easily

So has anyone got any recommendations for a trustworthy gasman/woman? Preferably on the kowloon side, thanks

What type of gas? If Towngas, I think you have to use their service.

Assuming you mean something that is connected to the mains gas (i.e. not bottled gas) then you don't have to use Towngas, but you do have to use a licensed gas fitter.

But I would probably go with Towngas for peace of mind. Very few reputable tradesmen (or women) do call outs for much less than $500, although that may be offset against the cost of any work needed.

When you say "doesn't work", do you mean that there is gas coming out but the igniter doesn't work, or that there isn't any gas coming out?

Thanks 2 with no gas or lighter, 1 with gas but no lighter. Which I've been using with a manual kitchen lighter with no issues but decided its time to fix all of them

You could try DIY cleaning (there is also DIY igniter replacement, it's not that hard if you can get the correct part, see other YouTube videos).

I had a rental in the US to an Asian couple and wok cooking for some reason gunked up all these bits but cleaning was enough (no replacement required).

You have nothing to lose by cleaning... If you don't even hear it clicking however, yeah, igniters are probably dead, it happens.

There are endless YouTubes on this topic, apologies if you've tried all this already.

Also, it's probably wise to get the "rubber" gas pipes leading to the burners replaced every few years. Again Towngas will do this for a reasonable charge. But they might also reasonably suggest that you spend $3000 or so on a new hob!
