Well well, who reads SCMP anyway... Folks, cancel your subscriptions, save a few trees and use your time more wisely.

You don't need to buy the paper to read it.

But you need to pay to see beyond headers, or something changed lately?

You need to pay but you don't destroy the rainforests in doing so.

That about sums the paper up for me... I have had a couple free online trial subscriptions, and have never been enticed to pay for it...

I really wish the local papers were translated to English

I guess we just need to learn to read the local language, same thing everywhere... (Italy, France, Japan, what have you...)

Or perhaps the technology will develop faster than your character reading, you can already "read" Ming Pao in English, sort of:

I find some quite interesting stories in SCMP - especially in relation to crimes.

Anyone read the article - last Friday I think - of the poor guy who pled guilty and got fined $5000 for posting a link to a pornographic website in a forum. I can't remember exactly what law he broke, but all he did was paste one link in one forum.

    Am I missing something? Crazy.

I just read the cover story and must say I am quite shocked that someone making such remarks is the chairman of one of the major political parties in Hong Kong. One may argue whether the story is interesting or not. Newsworthy, it definitely is. In many democratic countries there would now be calls for apologies or even resignation. Mr. Ma also implies that Hong Kong is not ready for universal suffrage until there is no risk that parties critical of the mainland could be voted into power. Why bother with universal suffrage at all if the outcome ensures there will no dissent. Universal suffrage exists in Belarus, Zimbabwe and many other countries but that does not mean that elections there are free or fair. Mr. Ma further wants school curricula about Tiananmen Square be dictated by the HK government so that students are taught the mainland point of view instead of 'foreign opinion'. Apparently he follows the school of thought that the mainland government is infallable and need not take responsibility for their actions in the public arena. If Mr. Ma had posted his speech on this forum, without a doubt, he would have been labelled a troll.

Yeah I agree, their papers look alot more entertaining than the SCMP. They also have nice cartoon illustrations .
