    Apparently police have said:

[Annette Spicuzza, UC Davis police chief] said officers were forced to use pepper spray when students surrounded them. They used a sweeping motion on the group, per procedure, to avoid injury, she said.

Well, the pictures sure back them up...

Why do Police Officers Use Pepper Spray? | Wired Science | Wired.com

seems using pepper spray winds people up - causing non violent protests to get a bit nastier..

It's "free" when they bash China . FT would be the 1st one to tell you how "free" America is.

The difference is in the US there it caused outrage and he was suspended. In China he would have got a medal for maintaining "harmony".

i'm wondering why he thought he was free to spray them in the first place..

its the thin end of the wedge and itsnt the first incident of heavy handed policing - there was another one in new york with an officer walking up to a bunch of female protesters who were already behind a barricade and spraying them with out warning..

its true that its good that there is still a bit of openess compared - how ever the low and high tide marks are being shifted and where a police officer thinks he may assault a protestor sitting peacefully on the ground without warning????

and the UK is as bad with its kettling etc.. having met a few cops on the street there - I mostly thought they could do with some attitude adjustment as they seemed to be spoiling for a fight.

according to US contistution and british law - we have a right to demostrate - the rich would like to see those rights inhibited..

    that must be stopped....
