As people, they may well be, but they perform an important job.

I like to read the SCMP. Now of course it is nothing like a good quality publication of a European newspaper, but it is still MUCH better than other English newspapers in Oriental countries, such as Thailand, Malaysia or Singapore for example which has very boring propoganda type stories in it only.

There are various sorts of journalists and while some perform an important job, some don't

Seeing as SCMP sold its soul to the motherland, Asia Times Online seems like a pretty steady envelope pusher in regional journalism.

But who needs news when we have Google news?

Google news is just a parasite, repeating (or plagiarising) real news sources. It creates nothing itself. Much like the rest of Google.
