Will C Y Leung's environmental team get stuff done?

What would be your TOP 3 environmental protection initiatives?

I worry that CYL is (1.) coopting her and (2.) vacuuming up any bit of goodwill she may have earned, eventually to be discarded when no longer useful.

The same thing will probably happen to the heroic SARS doctor that CYL also mesmerized into joining his administration not very long ago.

She doesn't need the money, and I don't think she is one to take, or stay in a job where she is not getting something done, so I am still cautiously optimistic. The main problem is that most of the pollution comes from Guangdong, and there's nothing we can do about that. But, if in 4 years time we have a better local environment - large scale pedestrianisation, harbour side walks and cycle paths, road pricing, the cross harbour tunnels sorted out - it will be a start.

1.) Free up more green and brown space for housing to stop the overcrowding/high density living.

This is the root of many environmental problems in HK IMO.

Brown space yes; green space no. The city needs its lungs.

I would rather that new highrises were built taller, with express elevators in the core alongside regular elevators and freight/service elevators.

Taller highrises, with fewer, larger flats on each floor.

Why do the 'greens' always mention the increased number of deaths due to pollution. It is property prices the Government cares about!

Govt vows to tackle air pollution
