    Yes, of course there were. For example, the first unofficial (i.e. he became a member through appointment, not because he was a senior member of the administration) Legco member was Ng Choy, appointed in 1888.

    As far as the legislative council, what is the difference to Hong Kong between post and pre colonial times?

    The reason for asking this is my cousin who is a British born chinese is discouraged by the increase influence the mainland has and said that Hongkong was better under british rule and many of the big companies have left HKG now, when asked to name one company, he couldnt! he is prejudiced against the mainland. l certainly disagree with him

    Yes, he is right in a sense... some companies have left HK ... to be based in guess where? .... Mainland China!
