If there is to be an additional government agency/department/desk tasked with monitoring the wellbeing of FDH, then I hope the costs are borne by those who are hiring the FDH and not redistributed to the wider community.

I guess it would be feasible to enforce some kind of licensing system

Surely immigration dept. not the police have control over immigration and deportation?

both the HK Police and consultate actions are reprehensible

    More news from SCMP:

"Erwiana ‘forced to stay in consulate under police guard’, say supporters"

Say hello to the new HK police state.

I presume they are claiming its all for "her protection".

Of course. Because Hong Kong is such a lawless place she needs a squadron of police to stand guard in a consulate round the clock. *sarcasm off*

A police spokesperson said they had arranged for her to stay in the consulate under the protection of officers and denied they had threatened her over matters of accommodation.

I wonder what effect this will have on maids in abusive situations deciding whether or not to come forward in the future. Hardly encouraging is it?

The wife says the Chinese media are reporting that she is being "protected" from the Chinese media!

Here is a new update: http://hkhelperscampaign.com/indones...uring-erwiana/ Turns out Erwiana was pressured to switch to a gov't provided lawyer and return to her original agency for support/accommodation last week.

Doesn't a lawyer hasn't to be registered in HK? If so then it's quite obvious that a lawyer from Indonesia that isn't familiar with HK criminal laws is not the best option.
