HK, the world's most visited tourist destination

With all the news about falling tourist numbers and woes in the local tourism industry, its important to remind ourselves that HK remains the most visited tourist destination in the world, with over 27 million visitors last year, far outstripping the second popular choice, London, by 10 million people:

Not surprisingly, HK's position is due to the influx of mainland tourists. But this reliance is not really sustainable nor has it made the city more appealing for the locals who live here. So, is it even a good thing for HK to be the most visited tourist destination in the world?

You can't have it both ways. Hong Kong is a part of China...mainlanders don't count as tourists.

and Shenzhen on the list? WTF? This clearly isn't tourism related.

Maybe cnn is sino orientated, considering there so many difference between hong Kong and China, officially same country, but most people regard China very different to hong kong, official language, side of driving, Facebook /Google, different plugs, etc

Everyone without a home return permit who goes over the border from HK for shopping, or to use Shenzhen airport, or to get the trains to elsewhere in China is going to count as visiting Shenzhen on holiday I suspect.

it's abdaly written article and we all know it.
It's not tourists (even in London etc) it is visitors (be it work work, tourism or else).

    Nothing to see here really.

We'll need a breakdown of who are the tourists and who are here on business visits.

Given the MTR is heavily subsidised (by housing) these smugglers who buy uber thin margin milk powder probably cost the tax payer more than they contribute.
