Dear Robbers.... Please avoid the Peak!

Security theater has finally arrived in full force on The Peak.

And obviously the robbers do not have access to the interwebs in this day and age.

Patrols by uniformed and plain-clothes officers from the force’s Emergency Unit and Police Tactical Unit have been boosted on The Peak, and camouflaged officers will also be deployed to carry out surveillance and special operations, especially at night.
“They will hide in undergrowth and lie in wait for burglars,” a source with knowledge of the operation said.

Are robbers an issue on The Peak? Never heard of any issues in the time I was in HKG.

@huja a couple of high profile robberies in the last month or two. Including a high profile banker - HSBC Asia head and another French banker.

Not to mention that Carrie Lam lives up on the Peak as do a number of billionaires. Must protect them with tax payer money...

Maybe they can fire random bullets in the air, that might scare the burglars away...

Thanks for the explanation. I guess criminals really are stupid. If ever you wanted to bring heat down on your criminal activities, target victims at The Peak - you know, the rich and politically connected.

Are we talking apartments burglarized? Or people mugged?

Havent you heard about the guy who took a $1B (hkd) ransom from Li Ka Shing and then later called him for investment advice?

    The footnote ...

In 1999, he rejected rumours that he had struck a deal with authorities that led to the execution of Cheung and four gang members in Panyu in 1998 for crimes including murder, kidnapping, robbery and smuggling explosives.

Cheung Tze keung was executed in china for his crimes!

reminds me of the dangerous late 80's and 90s, the other famous local criminal was Yip KaI Foon

noted that a lot of hk movies was based/inspired on these events when HK was a more dangerous place than now

    Ah .. good old days.

I do remember that one ....

His career finally came to an end on 13 May 1996 when he was arrested following a Kennedy Town gun fight with police that left him paralyzed from the waist down. At the time he had a HK$1 million reward on his head,[5][9] but the two officers involved did not receive the reward.[7] Two police officers had surprised Yip and his gang in an alley near the waterfront. Since they had just debarked from a boat, the police suspected they were illegal immigrants and asked for identification.[10] The rest of the gang fled, but Yip pulled a gun from a bag and began shooting.[1] During an ensuing foot pursuit, the officers testified they ordered him to drop his gun, which he refused to do, shooting at the officers.[11] After his gun jammed, he was captured.[1] He was found with a machine gun, a pistol, and 1.8 kg of explosives.[12]
