Read a research article about 6-12 months ago which indicated that McDonalds franchises will have to make big capital investments over the next few years to compete with the upcoming options, while it was a US based report, I can imagine that McDs is also keen to bring some cash into its coffers either for defensive or offensive moves it will need to make.

Also, it brings the China markets in line with the rest of the world, where McDs operates.
    Source?

@morisson - cannot find a public source for that doc (was a research brief which I cannot find).

But here's a bloomberg article which sort of explains what is going on.

There have been a number of reports about McDonalds and their re-org over the last 18 months.

Franchising in China will surely lead to even less quality control.

Not that I go to McDonald's here. At home occasionally for breakfast.

As opposed to the world class quality control McDonald's is already known for?

Good move to get rid of fakes too. PRC might give a shit about copyright infringement if they have a stake in it.
