Public Consultation on building under the parks

The model of selling land in premium locations and using the tax generated to spread the wealth by building facilities that will generate wealth for society.

There isn't that much land left to sell so now they are looking at digging out the parks and making underground malls

    - Southorn Playground
    - Victoria Park
    - Kowloon Park

What do you think the space under our public space should be used for?

Pilot Study on Underground Space Development in Selected Strategic Urban Area

Is losing Southorn Playground for 7 years for an underground mall worthwhile?

We lost happy valley for many years (in parts) for a reservoir...
I guess its worth it for the greater good.....and we still get to keep the whole park..

A small part of Happy Valley for a crucial part of the anti-flooding system.

Absolutely. Just think of all the facilities the extra space can provide. On top of that, we'll provide plenty of jobs for construction workers.

The plan appears to be a shopping mall in Wanchai. Essential and just what the residents need.

The construction industry is a means to an end not the end.

    It says this.

Surrounded by heavily trafficked main roads (e.g.
Hennessy Road, Luard Road and Johnston Road),
Southorn Playground offers opportunity space for
    developing an all-weather underground pedestrian
network connecting Wan Chai Station, Gloucester
Road and Lee Tung Street to enhance the pedestrian
circulation in the area. Besides, the potential
    underground space could accommodate facilities
for a mix of activities (e.g. retail, food & beverage,
community, leisure and cultural, etc.) to address the
    community aspirations.
    Developing the underground space underneath
Southorn Playground also provides an opportunity
to further upgrade and reorganise the existing
playground and nearby facilities. Located at the
western side of Southorn Playground, the Luard Road
Refuse Collection Point has long created hygienic
problems to the neighbourhood areas. Replanning
of the Refuse Collection Point would relieve the
    environmental nuisance created. Seizing the
development opportunity, the ageing playground can
also be upgraded to accommodate various sports or
    civic activities (e.g. carnivals)
    in the future.
    Are you cherry-picking again?

    And....

On top of that, we'll provide plenty of jobs for construction workers.

Well, they're no longer striking, so it must be good.

Bar benders got an 11% raise last year. Good for them.

If it is an underground mall, the operator will ensure that all the shops and restaurants are the same as in every other mall in Hong Kong.

Surrounded by heavily trafficked main roads (e.g. Hennessy Road, Luard Road and Johnston Road), Southorn Playground offers opportunity space for developing an all-weather underground pedestrian network connecting Wan Chai Station, Gloucester Road and Lee Tung Street to enhance the pedestrian circulation in the area
Alternatively, limit vehicle access (road pricing / traffic calming measures / improve the electric tram network / reduce the number of bus routes), and improve surface circulation for pedestrians. I much prefer to be walking around at street level than in underground malls (whether it is summer or winter).

I am wondering if locals would agree, given that most seem to love them.
