Rescuers were put on alert at Hong Kong International Airport on Wednesday after a China Eastern plane slid off the runway, forcing authorities to close the north runway. The accident came as thundery showers battered the territory. Flight MU765 from Nanjing landed at 10:51am. Airport officials said the Airbus 321 slid off the runway as it was making its way to the gate. No injuries have been reported. The runway closure is causing delays to arriving flights. Passengers are advised to check with the airlines for the latest flight information.

So expect some delays for arrivals.

Can be deadly if you're an illegal immigrant - the snakehead chose the wrong day to sneak into HK.

A 38-year-old illegal immigrant from Bangladesh died after falling from a steep cliff in Kau Ling Chung on Lantau Island amid a downpour on Wednesday morning, Apple Daily reports.

The man was among a group of ten men of South Asian ethnicity who attempted to reach the shore after arriving in Hong Kong waters by a boat.

His companions – five Bangladeshis, three Pakistanis and one Afghanistan, aged 20 to 40 – were arrested by police.

Sources said the group were asylum seekers who first arrived in Guangzhou by air earlier this month, Sing Tao Daily reported.

They were subsequently taken to Shenzhen or Zhuhai, before being smuggled into Hong Kong by sea, the newspaper said.

The 10 migrants landed on a beach in Kau Ling Chung on Tuesday night, but snakeheads, or those who smuggled them, left them with no food and other provisions.

While climbing a steep cliff, the 38-year-old Bangladeshi stumbled and fell. He sustained injuries to his forehead and nose.
