    I find many academics to be very bright and totally clueless. It's easy to be both. Common sense is not a criteria for getting into academia... indeed it may well be a detriment. One of the strengths of our firm (not in the planning area obviously) is that we use academics (in small doses, when helpful) but most of our team are people who live and work in the real world.....and can thus translate the academese into something useful!

    agree. its like the so-called intelligence questions which kids are more likely to get right than adults. Because they think of the question in the simplest, most straightforward terms, whereas adults use life experience that makes them cynical that a question is so simple!

    The academics who did this report are right in theory based on narrow boundaries. Building more homes (assuming affordable homes) on land which is not being used, is going to solve some problems HK society has. But there's also another side to that which needs to be considered as well as other ideas which may have a more general benefit to HK.

    Its just an idea anyway, so we should always be open minded to at least listen to what they propose.
