I think the way Chinese eat, they tend to have more balanced diets as they share dishes. Whenever i eat with a group of HK people, they would insist on at least one veg dish. There are more fruit based desserts in Chinese places than in the UK or US which is mostly ice cream, cake etc.

One of the things I remember reading which I have tried to incorporate in how I eat is that in much of asian cuisine, meat is meant to be a seasoning of the dish. In the West, we often traditionally view meat as the main ingredient. I was also discussing donuts recently because we were watching a show about an Indonesian donut company that had open tons of branches there and was wildly popular. Thailand also supports loads of branches. Krispy Kreme in HK didn't really work out and you don't see the big donut franchise here which suggests the local chinese population might not have as much of a sweet tooth as other nations which is also a good thing. In my opinion, sugar is as big a threat on our heath as tobacco and alcohol.

Plain steamed rice doesn't have salt added to it.

Had dinner once with some colleagues and one of them described a dish as being "so salty that it would cause instant kidney failure".
