“E-sports more than just playing video games”

'E-sports more than just playing video games' - RTHK
...parents should understand that professional gamers are comparable to professional athletes.

Li said e-sports competitors have training and coaches, "just like real sport, like traditional sport".
I would say no as real sports involves moving your whole body around. The other involves sitting in front of a computer screen. But one would argue that chess is a sport (for the mind)...

There's a lot of money in e-sports, sponsorships and merchandising deals for the ones that made it to the top. What I would be concerned is to what happens to those that couldn't make it : a lot of these kids competing look barely out of high school. Do they have any marketable skill if they couldn't make the big league?

And if this is anything like youtubers, the most popular ones rake in millions, while everyone else just scrapes by.

As a general rule I would suggest

    You train for a sport
    You practice for a game

The lines are blurred but if you consider what you do to be training then you are approaching it like a sport. Training doesn't have to be only physical you can also use training techniques for mental aspects of a sport.

Personally would not consider any of those sports either. Well, shooting if it was part of a biathon.

E-Sports is about as much sport as watching Pornhub is.

Do professional pornhub audience train? Do they battle it out with other audience? How does one win? :0

Back to the OP's point, e-sports is comparable to traditional sports for me. They didn't claim to be traditional sports, they aren't. But these players undergo similar stresses sports athletes do.

Do these e-sports players train? Of course they do. Do they battle it out with other players? Of course they do, they have leagues and tournaments. Do they have win conditions, rules, and guidelines? Of course, they do.

By the end of the day, both e-sports and traditional sports are just competitions of skill where the best win (ideally). It's just that this kind of competition is dismissed by those that don't care to know how it works.

Similar stresses and physical exertion to bingo players maybe.

I haven't thought about how one would win a Pornhub competition. Does the first one win or the last one?
