My daughter has emails from all her teachers with work to do, resources uploaded to school intranet, teachers available via instant messaging. Shouldn't be an issue for older kids to carry on close to normal. Only thing they are missing is canteen lunches and a bus ride for a couple of days.

Schools to reopen, but parents get final say - RTHK

Although the decision has been taken to reopen schools, some headteachers have warned of serious damage to their buildings and a backlog of repairs to be carried out.

The Education Bureau said it would let individual schools decide whether it is safe for them to open or not.

It added that schools should not punish any students who are late or can't make it in at all due to transport problems.

Do you have kids in school?

I am curious- what exactly do you think that young kids do in HK when off school with parents at work. Perhaps they go out and explore the countryside on bicycles, and build tree houses?

The Education Bureau has announced classes will resume on September 19. The bureau said schools are generally ready after the cleaning and repair works of their premises and facilities in the past two days.If individual schools need to continue their class suspension tomorrow, they may proceed after consulting the respective District School Development Sections or Joint Office for Kindergartens & Child Care Centres. These schools are also required to inform staff, parents, students and relevant parties of the decision and related arrangements as soon as possible.Schools should also make arrangements for the students' learning needs during the extended class suspension period.Parents may let their children stay at home if the road and traffic conditions in the vicinity have yet to return to normal.Schools should exercise discretion in handling students who are late for school because of traffic problems and those who are absent, and such students should not be penalised.
