New holiday proposed for WWII victory over Japan

Hong Kong lawmakers call for statutory holiday to celebrate victory over Japan in second world war
Poon, a member of the pro-Beijing Federation of Hong Kong and Kowloon Labour Unions, said the extra day off would provide local youths with the opportunity to learn about the country’s history.

Ironically, Liberation Day was one of the pre-1997 public holidays which China scrapped:

“Especially in today’s Hong Kong, separatism is brewing. Celebrating victory in the war gives young people another chance to learn about the country,” Poon said.
Why stop with a holiday - maybe some anti-japanese campaigns would help deal with this 'separatism' - like on the mainland.

I remember a story a few years ago where a young guy (18) fractured the skull of another driver (50s) by hitting him with an iron rod - upset he was driving a Toyota. Both were Chinese.

Will you get extra social credit points for burning the right flag?

Interesting to know that China had Japan beat when the US dropped the bomb. The US could have not bothered with the whole Manhattan Project.

While it's true that dropping the bomb was not necessary. China was having a hard enough time sorting itself out, they weren't beating anyone but themselves.

In which countries / territories did China beat Japan?

Wasn't it the take no prisoners approach of the US / AUS armies that was the main drag on the Japanese war machine?

The soviets invasion on Manchuria and the fact they declared war on Japan made the US trigger happy in order to finish it quickly and gain a political advantage over the USSR. Japan was the victim of the beginning of the cold war.
