Traditionally, rules... never mind, I'm outta here too. You win.
Let me fix that sentence for you.
Wonder if the courts will accept that as an argument IF an first expat kid is EVER brought up on charges of disrespect.
Hence the futility of getting excited when nothing has actually happened.
Answered here:
We'll set anthem lessons, not Beijing: Kevin Yeung - RTHKThe anthem will also be taught in schools, but Yeung said he, and not mainland authorities, will set out the curriculum.
“What the bill says is the secretary for education has to give directions to the schools so that students could learn the national anthem at schools and also they could learn the history and also the necessary attitude when they sing the national anthem,” he said.
"It just follows the local education system in terms of learning and teaching. There’s no question of any interference from the mainland."
Shri, until you posted this english translation, I had no problem with my kids singing the Chinese anthem at school. They go to the Australian school and already at assemblies they sing the school song, Australian anthem, etc. All the kids there study Mandarin as a minimum 40 mins a day, learn a few Chinese songs, there is a Chinese week where they dress up in Chinese costume, etc. It would not be a burden for them to learn another Chinese song and I think just common sense, good manners, respectful to our Chinese hosts to learn about Chinese culture and traditions and we can sing their anthem alongside the Australian anthem at appropriate times, etc.
But fuck me dead, reading the English translation what kind of anthem is this? I can imagine my kids now:
Australian Anthem - Young and free, golden soil, girt by sea, natures beaty rich and rare, let us sing "Advance Australia Fair!"
Chinese Anthem: Slaves, flesh and blood, build a wall, Arise, braving the enemies, march on!!!
Maybe the kids can sing it but lets not translate it and don't tell them what it means?
To get perspective, a couple of translated paragraphs(there are many more) of La Marseillaise, the French anthem:
Arise, children of the Fatherland,
The day of glory has arrived!
Against us, tyranny's
Bloody standard is raised, (repeat)
Do you hear, in the countryside,
The roar of those ferocious soldiers?
They're coming right into your arms
To cut the throats of your sons, your women!
To arms, citizens,
Form your battalions,
Let's march, let's march!
Let an impure blood
Water our furrows
Italy:
Brothers of Italy,
Italy has awakened;
Scipio's helmet
she has put on her head.
Where is the Victory? (ref. 1)
Offer her the hair; (ref. 2)
because slave of Rome
God created her.
Let us unite!
We are ready to die;
Italy called.
We have been for centuries
stamped on, and laughed at,
because we are not one people,
because we are divided.
Let's unite under
one flag, one dream;
To melt together
Already the time has come.
Let us unite!
We are ready to die;
Italy called.
Let's unite, let's love;
The union and the love
Reveal to the people
God's ways.
We swear to liberate
the native soil:
United, for God,
Who can beat us?
Let us unite!
We are ready to die;
Italy called.
From the Alps to Sicily,
Everywhere is Legnano; (ref 3)
Every man of Ferruccio (ref 4)
has the heart and the hand;
the children of Italy
are called Balilla; (ref 5)
The sound of every church bell
calling for evening prayers.
Let us unite!
We are ready to die;
Italy called.
They are branches that bend
the sold swords; (ref. 6)
Already the eagle of Austria
has lost its feathers.
the blood of Italy
and the Polish blood (ref. 7)
Drank with Cossacks
But its heart was burnt.
Let us unite!
We are ready to die;
Italy called.
