However, who vets (or appoints) the vetters? Considering their power over the electoral process why wouldn't their background be of general interest?

edit: If your issue was with the general comment "it may not be an altogether fun gig though unless one is a sociopath or a marxist zealot"; how would you express that more clearly?

Three rounds of questioning show that there really isn't a legitimate basis to bar Wong from running.

Its like questioning a criminal suspect, they could have already made up their mind, they are just trying to dig out any fault in Joshua's words.

Perfect!! Another example of local/central admin's zero political skill, making him bigger threat by not allowing to contest than simply letting him be part of the system, anyway DCs have not much power..

Focusing on the one or two words he said or used, this is just censorship and no freedom.

The unelected rulers simply can not refrain from using purges as 'electoral tool'.

Maybe someone should remind them that these (widely popular) people they're now detaining are being arrested for trying to prevent the rulers from making a huge mistake with that extradition bill...

They had the popular mandate to do so, but that mandate wasn't allowed to be manifested in the legislature(!)

At least 7 pro-democracy lawmakers - Au Nok-hin, Lam Cheuk-ting, Chu Hoi-dick, Ray Chan, Gary Fan, Leung Yiu-Chung, Kwok Ka-ki - arrested for allegedly violating Article 19 of Legco Powers and Privileges Law on May 11.
4 are standing in Nov 24 District Council polls

Reason (excuse) for the mass arrests?
