The cops being unreliable witnesses as usual.
The judge said the charge could not possibly be substantiated, because a video played to the court showed that an object resembling the baton was already on the pavement, before the defendant appeared at the scene and left his bag after struggling with a police officer.

The judge noted that the officer concerned was seen picking up something from the ground, which the sergeant said was his torch.

But the judge said the officer’s explanation could not be reconciled with what was depicted on the video and the court could not rely on his evidence.

In a hypothetical place where the unaccountable authorities are beholden to a larger power, one might posit that it could depend on the fairness of the judge, and how motivated they are by deterrence, careerism, or politics rather than justice or fairness in the facts of the particular case...

Not a surprise that only certain people are arrested.

I'm not quite sure what Dr Helena Wong did to be arrested but it is very surprising to see her name on such a list. Which lawmakers where physically barred from doing what by who?

Out of sheer coincidence, the pro-Bejing lawmaker who threw Ray Chan onto the floor and dragged him half way across the chamber, with him necessitating hospitalization, has not been arrested.

    Once again:

In handing down the judgement on Tuesday in the case of 19-year-old Tang Cho-fung, magistrate Peony Wong said she did not accept the testimony given by a police officer, calling it “weird and contradictory”.

She said the officer provided conflicting accounts of the event, such as the number of people gathered at the scene at the time.

    And again

Magistrate Jocelyn Leung Siu-ling acquitted Ian Wong Ho-fung of one count of assaulting police during a protest in Kowloon Bay on December 25, after finding the officer “did not tell the truth in court”.
