The legal system of the city will also be improved to “safeguard national security,” he said, without providing more details.

To make sure the candidate is definitely PRO-CHINA and that no more demisoto can slip through the cracks.

Maybe a revamp of the Selection Committee. At the very least scrap the 117 District Council seats on it as the pro-democracy camp will win them?

Those seats have no influence on the election.

I don't think anyone is opposed to pro-China candicates. It's the demand that any and all candidates are pro-CCP that is rightfully disturbing.

Being pro-CCP is essentially and functionally equivalent to being against ourselves as people with rights and civil liberties.

When that's the only option (with a few different faces) on the ballot it's not much of a choice.

Charles Li had to apologize for calling 1C 2S faulted. I suppose the brand name will be kept...

i wouldn't say that. together with the pro-dem votes on the remaining nomination committee, they can put forward a valid candidate for voting and possibly mount a strong challenge to the 'official' candidate. i suspect Beijing is worried to gradually lose the strong hold and wants to revamp things while they hold the majority in Legco

The use of word "improve" or "safeguard" HK is absolutely going the wrong way. Scary and horrific!

"The Party seeks power entirely for its own sake. We are not interested in the good of others; we are interested solely in power, pure power. What pure power means you will understand presently. We are different from the oligarchies of the past in that we know what we are doing. All the others, even those who resembled ourselves, were cowards and hypocrites. The German Nazis and the Russian Communists came very close to us in their methods, but they never had the courage to recognize their own motives. They pretended, perhaps they even believed, that they had seized power unwillingly and for a limited time, and that just around the corner there lay a paradise where human beings would be free and equal. We are not like that. We know that no one ever seizes power with the intention of relinquishing it. Power is not a means; it is an end. One does not establish a dictatorship in order to safeguard a revolution; one makes the revolution in order to establish the dictatorship. The object of persecution is persecution. The object of torture is torture. The object of power is power."
    George Orwell – 1984
