Yeah ! Don't take transport subsidy and please don't ever go to public hospitals ! better, include abolition of transport subsidy, public healthcare and cheap housing for poor in protesters demands ... Let it be 8 demand, not one less !

I'm not here to convince you, there are many countries in the world where controlled socialist measures together with free trade policies have largely benefited people ! HK on the other hand has large gap between poor and rich which is only widening every year !

Please also explain why 100% capitalist US has the least affordable healthcare due to which thousands of Americans go bankrupt every year !

Also explain how your own UK and Germany are 'going bankrupt' over publicly funded, affordable education and healthcare systems !

BTW, Friedman is also mentioned in this article.

"One answer is that the project of measuring economic freedom had made some of its authors question their prior assumptions about the natural relationship between capitalism and democracy. By the 1990s, Friedman, who had previously seen the two as mutually reinforcing, was singing a different tune. As he said in an interview in 1988: “I believe a relatively free economy is a necessary condition for freedom. But there is evidence that a democratic society, once established, destroys a free economy.” An enfranchised people tended to use their votes to pressure politicians into more social spending, clogging the arteries of free exchange."

I now believe it wasn't a good idea revealing my nationality ... Would've let him assume China. Atleast nobody could've asked me to move to Chinese Immigrants threads

Not just sample size is important, demographic spread, if this was done on a uni campus, it will be unrepresentative of HK as a whole.
Either way, i can't read the source either so don;t know what the demographics are.

Conspiracy theory - Police are giving time for universities to evacuate intl students, regular students, staff and staff families so that all that is left are protesters. After that they will go in hard.

The taxi fleecing is a problem, and especially on business day mornings when people are trying to get somewhere and there are reports of taxi''s asking for $500 per head to passengers up front. But I doubt it's occuring at the airport, where they have airport staff asking the passengers where they going and then handing them cards with the name of the taxi driver, license plate, and how much the expected fare to their destination should be.

So I would not stay in a hotel near the airport worried about this, take a taxi as normal, if he overcharges you when you arrive tell him to f*ck off and leave without paying (don't forget to get your luggage out of the boot though )
