you have to wonder, given the dispute in HK that her government has failed to resolve and has received international attention, why she wasn't given a police escort in London.

    That looks a dehumanising experience.

Why no police? Her primary topic was dispute resolution so perhaps they thought she had it covered.

Why is she even there ? I mean surely her department and herself are largely responsible along with Carrie Lam for precipitating our current crisis .
Reading her bio she is obviously very intelligent by the usual measures despite giving off a distinctly shifty personal vibe .
I recently read an interesting book recently titled 'why intelligent people do stupid things ' It does explain the actions of our current crop of highly intelligent leaders . It relates to cognitive biases such as my side bias ,Lack of what might be called EQ and something called earned dogmatism . Pity they don't read that book and self reflect a bit .
That book is actually very useful read for any of us who, previously ,thought we were expert in our field and good at our job : well we're not .we are one step away from a major screw up : so caution advised and need to change course to avoid the sunk cost fallacy etc etc

Hong Kong’s justice minister fell and sustained “serious bodily harm” to her arm while on an official trip in London on Thursday

She later made a report to the London police and asked them “take the case seriously and put the culprits to justice”, her office said in a statement.

At best you can say she is book smart in only a certain area and not street smart at all. Mind you, street smarts is not really ideal or adequate either, because you need knowledge of both. Lam also lacks book smarts in areas beyond her traditional "practice", like international relations, she had no idea what impact the extradition bill will have on Taiwan and cross-strait relations, not to mention bringing unwanted (from the perspective of the government) US attention on HK. Had she had a better understanding of international relations, we may well not be where we are now.

This is compounded, as you say, by dogmaticism, a my-way-or-the-highway mentality that may have serve her well in the civil service but is totally out of place as the CE to govern for the HK people.

Don't worry. Her Husband who gets lots of government contracts has lots of votes under his control for the CE selection process. She could retire but obviously believes in what she does.

Why the F*** isn't SHE the one on the streets of Hong Kong cleaning up and getting hit on the head by bricks?!?!?!

It is so maddening in the first place that there are 70-year-olds on the street cleaning. To think that she's made such a mess here and now put them in danger... then whining to the police in another country for getting a SLIGHT TASTE of what she's caused to so many Hong Kong people.

She created these bloody mess, why the heck isn't she here in it?! The UK should have never allowed her in.

a trip to promote Hong Kong as a venue for dispute resolution
    Wtf?!?!?!?

ARGHHHHHHH! There are no words to describe how aggravating this government is!!!

Doesn't she have a mansion in Vancouver she can go retire to and leave us working class people alone?!

... she looks stunned in the video. Just goes to show how oblivious these elite royalty here is to how the average people feel.

London must have been shocked at the sudden angry screaming of Hong Kongers on their streets...

Personally I wouldn't want anyone on the streets to be hit on the head by a brick, regardless of how frustratingly stupid they appear to be. Or surrounded by an angry mob on a dark street.

Perhaps it was her naivety that resulted in her, or her department, not requesting a police escort. I'm sure questions will be asked of the Met police as to why they didn't have something in place.

But if someone were to be hit on the head with a brick, like the elderly street cleaner, it should be the one who created the mess...

I'm not going to wish decency of laws and rules and police escorts that don't beat you are going to be granted to her...

Well look... she's just made some comedians lives easier...
