2020 Chinese New Year - Cancellations - Fireworks, Carnival and More...

    Updated 24th Jan:

Cheung also said several major upcoming events – including Cathay Pacific’s International Chinese New Year Carnival, and the Lunar New Year Football Cup – will be cancelled as a health precaution.

The carnival was to have been held at West Kowloon from Saturday to Tuesday, while the Lunar New Year Cup was due to be played at the Mong Kok Stadium on Sunday.

"Yellow fair" - has some issues, but might happen in Kwun Tong.

One of these fairs, to be held at an industrial building on Chun Yip Street in Kwun Tong, covering 30,000 square feet with 120 vendors, has yet to receive approval for a temporary places of public entertainment license from the government.

The food and environmental hygiene department has confirmed receiving an application for the fair's license but is still processing the application, according to Eastweek.

Lunar New Year fairs across town (licenses have been auctioned - again, no clue what the schedules are and if they're still on).

The FEHD list of terms and conditions is like many LCSD parks ... essentially, you or the vendor can be ejected for any reason.

    What safety concerns??

Two out of three years back, no fireworks (2018 canceled due to bus accident). Great for tourism...won't be too hard to snag a harbor-view room for Lunar New Year...

Government "manufactured" safety concerns. As in, imaginary safety concerns. Not a surprise given how the senior government officials are so detached from the grassroot reality of HK people.

Wouldn't worry too much. Our protestors will fill the gap of fireworks in absence of our govt not providing.

Is there an official announcement from the IN-NAME-ONLY government?
