HK loves its reams of paper based rules and regulations but there is definitely some discrepancy between paper and practice.

As the other poster mentioned why the hell can't they regulate/stop dripping aircons?

There was a spat of legionnaires in Quebec maybe 5-6 years back, air con condenser. These outbreaks are very localized and only those from that building were affected.

    UPDATE:

    - two more cases reported, CHP has attributed to a separate cluster but given their location about 1000m from the MTR cooling towers, calling it part of the same outbreak

    - 6 cases have specimen type match to the MTR cooling towers in Choi Hung station - confirms the cooling towers are the source

Legionnaires Disease is under-reported because it initially presents and is treated as typical pneumonia, but during this period of intense surveillance for the coronavirus, I am sure that lot more Legionnaires Disease cases will be identified, will LD test kits be next shortage?

They do. If you complain to the FEHD they will send the dripper an angry letter threatening to fine them 10k if they don't rectify the situation within one week. Each district has dedicated enforcement officers.

It's a shame that it's reactive, rather than proactive but that unfortunately just how things work here.

    update:
20 cases in total 14 cases attributable to the outbreak around Choi Hung / Ping Shek / Choi Hung MTR station, 6 out of 14 cases directly linked to Choi Hung MTR cooling towers. 6 other cases in different parts of town.

because healthcare is super sensitive to pneumonia type illness at the moment, far more legionnaires disease cases will be discovered
