Hmm... Would this be someone that just listens to me rant? Could be beneficial as it would spare my spouse from having to, but pity the person on the receiving end!

HK does have trained, English-speaking mental health care professionals. I've seen them at times, and they've helped. Sorry if "seek help" is too basic for advice, but sometimes it's the way to go.

Luckily we have a decent amount of space while we both work from home indefinitely but looking ahead at possibly a month or more of this and I'm wondering how on earth am I going to keep my sanity?

We managed to buy toilet paper today which was a big 'win' but how pathetic is that? I have lots of work to do but I'm finding it quite difficult to concentrate. Spending too much time on here and looking at the latest data for signs of hope.

I've been jet-lagged which hasn't helped and it's been rainy so we haven't been out hiking, I think once we get into an exercise routine it will help but what else can one do? I was still feeling the effects of the isolation from the protests and just when things were getting close to tolerable we have this viral outbreak to contend with.

Any tips for this cynic on improving mental health? Or care to share your own story?
Excercise? I hope you mean at home or at least outside maybe in a less populated area. For sure don't go to a gym.

i see what you mean (or honestly i'm not that drunk yet to call that bullshit)
if you're white, their sympathy towards you is automatic. However, if you re brown . regardless of your background, no matter how "good" their english is, you'd have to spend some time first that you're not one of "them".

coming back to the thread, alcohol still abounds in HK so I'm still hanging there in the sanity department

Well don’t get dependent even if you’re clearly high-functioning.

funny you say that. The other day, I was at the Market Place down my house. It is s a small one, so they don't have tons of stock but there was not a single bottle of those cheaper whiskey, vodka... left. So it actually did cross my mind that some people might be using it as disinfectant.
    Disinfect from the inside out

I'm fine with beer and wine and I picked up some duty free whiskey and aperol on the way back to HK
