Wong Chuk Hang - Bomb Scare / Police Action

Normally sleepy and sedate Wong Chuk Hang (where our office is) saw some action this morning.

One of two MTR exits shut down, bus terminal taped off and a few roads blocked. While I was leaving, more cops were showing up and taking control of the traffic lights (a sign that they will be around for a bit longer).

Randomly sharing this ... as I normally don't see this sort of activity.

Turns out it might have been a bomb or replica of sorts.

Definitely did not see the disposal team arrive.

Looks like something that might have fallen off a PLA truck.

Yeah.... well, we don't see many of those on that street @ 7:30-40AM .... and it all happened within 15 mins of me passing that spot on my way to get my morning coffee. By 7:50ish, the cops were arriving..

I have a feeling it might be a gimmick candle or toy as there are a few candle makers / toy suppliers in the building on that street.

About 15 mins before I went for my coffee run, I spotted this on our street... when I saw the cops while coming back, my first reaction was "someone tried steal or drive and crashed a Pagani Zonda".

Waaay too much excitement for one morning.

The "bomb" looks like a Soviet/Russian/Chinese 82mm mortar round. The police Explosive Ordnance Disposal Bureau would definitely turn up to an incident like this so strange you didn't see them. If it's a real ordnance item, I can't imagine where it came from apart from a hiker finding it while hiking in the Castle Peak area. If so, bring in to Wong Chuk Hang was a very stupid thing to do.

Is there a legal protest tomorrow or a big announcement from the Liaison Office via Mrs Lam?
