RTHK v/s HKPF ... A whole new level

Seems like a whole new level of hell has been opened up.

He also said the presenter's "use of satire" only makes people think that the police are not professional in their work.
He also said the presenter's "use of satire" only makes people think that the police are not professional in their work.

"Headliner will cause viewers to have a wrong impression and misunderstanding of the police force. If the public loses confidence in the police force, criminals will have a chance to take advantage of it, and Hong Kong's law and order will be difficult to maintain. This is definitely of major public interest."

Tang said he wanted to make it clear that the force is very willing to accept "friendly and constructive" criticism, but it has a responsibility to clarify reports that are not based on facts and to this end, the police will also be making a complaint against RTHK to the Communications Authority.

The HKPF under their new commisar appear to have a fundamental misunderstanding of public service broadcasting. Satire doesn't work if it's not based on truth. Building trust is part of the work of the police and the government. Holding a lens up to their actions is part of the work of the fourth estate. They can use part of their massively increased budget for a propaganda department, if its work is not as oafish and self-sabotaging as the policing seen more generally. Next we'll be hearing how the triads are misunderstood heroes, given how closely the thinking of the ones in uniform seem to be hewing to those other armed thugs.

Perhaps we could be issued with a list of people and organizations who must not be satirized.

Won't be long in coming now.

The thing that authoritarian regimes share all over the world is having no sense of political humour. Doesn't matter if they otherwise agree on little else or are mutually hostile (i.e. Nazi Germany vs Stalin's Soviet Union), they have this common characteristic of a failure to appreciate satire. Because they cannot tolerate anything that make fun of them. It is seen as a threat for someone to expose the truth of their rule. Seems like HK is slipping into this authoritarian mode now.

“Increased ratings of TVB News” but not long ago they cut jobs in the news department (and across the board) blaming it on the protests for somehow killing ratings?! I’m confused.

Edit: must less original reporting and more parroting government and police press conferences.

RTHK really does try to be impartial but as one side lurches to the authoritarian staying in the middle isclearly very difficult.

It may not work out the way Chris thought it would:

English for what Chris says in first panel: Scram, TVB won’t broadcast you anymore!
