Pearson Edexcel posted this last night:

As the COVID-19 outbreak has caused schools around the world to close, we've been working with you to support teaching and learning throughout this ever changing global situation. Our focus is on keeping everyone safe first and foremost, and on supporting students in all countries to achieve the qualifications they need to progress to universities around the world, further education and employment.

This is an unprecedented global situation, with governments applying different local changes, laws and guidelines based on their country’s situation. We understand the different situations that you may be facing, and we will be supporting all our international customers whatever your context.

Where schools are open and a country is deemed safe, exams for iPrimary, iLowerSecondary, International GCSE, and International A Level will take place for students outside of the UK in May and June 2020.

Where schools are closed and public exams are not permitted due to COVID-19, students will have the opportunity to receive a grade for qualifications where an entry has been made. These will be awarded using the same principles as the UK GCSE and GCE A Level which will not have exams in any country in May/June 2020.

Further information will be available in the coming days confirming the process to be followed. Please follow this page for further updates, and thank you for your patience and support in this rapidly changing situation. We hope you and your families keep safe and well.
So still unsure what the position will be, especially given the latest HK news and postponement of local exams.

Carrie Lam at today's press conference and question on international exams.

It will depends on the exam providers and the venues. No specific policy or guidelines from the govt.

Does appear that May 2020 IB diploma and career course exams are about to be cancelled.

    Edexcel - No International Exams.

We have today made the difficult decision not to hold any General Qualification exams in May and June 2020 globally. This applies to iPrimary, iLower Secondary, International GCSE and International A Levels, as well as our UK GCSE and A level qualifications. We remain committed to ensuring that all students internationally receive a result and a grade, and we will award grades to international students using the same principles as for the UK GCSE and A level qualifications.

For Y13 parents: Spotted on UCAS because many second tier universities are now changing offers to unconditional to get students to firm them.

The Government has asked universities to stop making unconditional offers or amending existing offers for two weeks. This is because they’re worried you’ll feel pressured to accept these offers over others you might be better suited to. Our advice to students who have received an unconditional offer is always to consider whether this is the right provider and course for you, before you make any decision.

Also careful research on those offers in light of financial pressures on universities

Support services will take a big hit I am guessing but undoubtedly some courses will have to go.

Statement on how grades will be assigned - not sure what the formula for calculating the grades will be set.

This means ensuring GCSE, A and AS level students are awarded a grade which fairly reflects the work that they have put in. There will also be an option to sit an exam early in the next academic year for students who wish to. Ofqual will develop and set out a process that will provide a calculated grade to each student which reflects their performance as fairly as possible, and will work with the exam boards to ensure this is consistently applied for all students. The exam boards will be asking teachers, who know their students well, to submit their judgement about the grade that they believe the student would have received if exams had gone ahead.

To produce this, teachers will take into account a range of evidence and data including performance on mock exams and non-exam assessment – clear guidance on how to do this fairly and robustly will be provided to schools and colleges. The exam boards will then combine this information with other relevant data, including prior attainment, and use this information to produce a calculated grade for each student, which will be a best assessment of the work they have put in.

Ofqual and exam boards will be discussing with teachers’ representatives before finalising an approach, to ensure that it is as fair as possible. More information will be provided as soon as possible.
