    Covid-19: 03/27 (Fri) - Hong Kong News

Starting with an update (may be a repeat) of the LKF / Insomnia cluster, now also referred to as the "Bar and Band" cluster on the wars website.

Health authorities said on Thursday that more than 100 people linked to four bars in Lan Kwai Fong and Wan Chai are to be quarantined after 16 coronavirus cases were tied to the entertainment venues.

The Centre for Health Protection said they have classified all staff of these bars, as well as members of nine bands managed by the firm running the venues, as close contacts of people who have tested positive.

The total number of people to be quarantined is around 120, officials said.

The four bars are Insomnia, Dusk Till Dawn, All Night Long and Centre Stage. The 16 new cases linked to these places include bartenders, band members and customers who visited the venues.

From the WARS website - seems most cases unrelated to LKF are still imported .

A few cases that stood out:

    Age 22 Female - Case 428

The patient with good past health is a policewoman. She went to Tsim Sha Tsui bar All Night Long and developed fever since Mar 24. She is the 2nd police officer who is infected.
Also seeing "loss of smell and taste" which has been reported in the US/UK as being a symptom.

    Age 27 Female - Case 420

The patient with good past health works in London in the United Kingdom. She developed loss of smell and taste since Mar 18 and returned to Hong Kong on Mar 22.

    Crosspost-

Regina Ip and co likely to overturn alcohol ban to help their friend Zeman. Other measures such as limiting social gatherings (double win for them vis a vis protests) on the table.

She seems to be talking sense. However, I have this image in my mind of riot police descending on a bbq site and attacking everyone with pepper spray!

SERIOUSLY ... it is not just about "Zeman" - his contribution to F&B in HK is insignificant. The whole bars thing was a serious distraction.

Regardless - it has worked - I suspect it will reduce F&B trade significantly this weekend. Hopefully.

Why does this government always target FDH with no actual solution. Earlier they suggested for helpers not to go out on their only day off, and now they specifically mention about gatherings for helpers on Sunday. Why not give them some help? Set up a fund so they can get some relief if they are being asked to stay home on their only day off.

Come on, I don't want to generalize or anything, but you know if a local family stays home in a Sunday and if the helper is home on their day off, the family is not going to give 24 hours of pure rest time.

I disagree that the entire bar thing was a distraction. According to local press, this was Carrie's idea and she didn't even ask Paul Chan for feedback about the entire idea. She genuinely thought that it might reduce 'intimate moments'

Regardless of the reasons, it's complete BS to close recreational facilities that promote health and that have not caused clusters while letting restaurants/bars/nightclubs operate freely when so many cases directly came from those activities. Illogical, unfair to some businesses and inconsistent messaging... Par for the course for the government.
