HK Post Suspends airmail / limits speedpost

Airmail delivery to a large number of countries has been suspended.

Speedpost services to continue to a very limited number of countries.

I just checked and neither USPS or UK Royal Mail are suspending services to Hong Kong or even China. Why is HK Post doing this?

You can still send stuff to the UK & US through speedpost, but as you can read on the Royal Mail site, they are experiencing increasing numbers of staff absences and no longer can guarantee delivery times, signatures etc.

I imagine HKPost are doing this to reduce the number of lost parcels. Plus Royal Mail do report difficulties securing air freight space. It's a pandemic, all you can do is go with the flow, it won't be normal service for quite a while and it's going to get worse before it gets better.

It is mostly capacity related . Not enough flights in the air right now to deliver mail. And as Kim says.. Last mile. Issues.

Any idea what happens to parcels already posted but still sitting in HK according to the parcel tracker?

Ask at the post office? They accepted them as at the time services were fully operational, so I expect they will try their best to fulfill the contract with you. Air freight does seem to be reducing, if my foray out to the local expat supermarket is any indication. Worst case scenario it will be returned to you most likely.

Great! My registered post for UK was given to them on 17th and still says sitting in HK

I asked for Speedpost and was told Reg OK but expect to take longer than normal which I understood and accepted.

Accepting that we live in extraordinary times is one thing. 10 days to find out my doc is nowhere. I’ve now got to track it down and send it by Speedpost

FYI ... as a reference, the Speedpost in HK warned that parcels to SouthEast Asia need at least one week before accepting the box.

Posted one parcel of mask from HK to Kuala Lumpur Malaysia,
Sent on Monday 23 March morning and it only
arrived on Thursday 26 March afternoon [ 4 days ]

Another parcel to small town, Seremban Malaysia,
Sent on Monday 23 March and
arrived on Friday 27 March morning [ 5 days]

So sending parcel to Malaysia is still ok.
