    Tiananmen Square massacre remembrance

    https://hongkongfp.com/2020/06/01/br...d-19-measures/

In the end, where will you go to remember the Tian Men Square massacre? I assume Victoria Park will be blocked; I read people might simply stop in the street and light a candle; I also read there are various places in the city people will gather.

What are you planning to do, and what should be the most effective?

Why can the EU say something about this but very little about the impending national security laws that will break the Basic Law and an international treaty?

The EU is a joke and a pathetic waste of space. Remember all the Remoaners in the Brexit debate who said the UK wouldn't have diplomatic relevance if it left the EU? Well so far on this issue the UK has been much tougher and more effective than the EU on this issue!

Because Germany needs exports to China to keep the economy running. Merkel has already said that a closer relationship with China will be at the top of the agenda when Germany takes over the presidency of the EU in July. Merkel is a politician who never makes a decision but waits until people either forget the problem or it disappears on its own. As long as Germany doesn't make a decision to go against Chinese interests, the EU won't do anything.

Perhaps the EU would of stood up for HK is the UK had stayed in the EU?

They put out a very tough expression of serious concern about China’s repression of the Uyghurs in 2019

Interesting. US Companies do seem to me much more aggressive than EU companies in off-shoring manufacturing away from China to other low cost countries. Covid-19 aside Vietnam, Mexico are benefiting fro the trade spat between USA and China. The EU keeps buying hat pins and looks the other way?

EU GDP $15.4T Imports from China $375B
USA GDP $19.39T Imports from China $430B

Similarish numbers but yes the EU does have a lot more technical tariffs with legacy national codes and standards as well as government support for some industries. The US is a real common market where the EU is still more of a free trade zone in some aspects.

It's not surprising that the UK is reacting to what happens in Hong Kong considering the history and the US is in a trade war with China so HK is a pawn in the game. The EU is comprised of different nations with various agendas and interests. It's very unlikely that anything besides lip service will come out of there. What happens in HK is largely irrelevant to most of the parties.
